Charge Nurse – Ward 1 (Hay Lodge Community Hospital)

About the role

This permanent Band 6 position is based on Ward 1 at Hay Lodge Community Hospital. The role is open to current NHS Scotland staff and offers a 36‑hour week within a 24‑hour inpatient service that primarily supports older adults requiring rehabilitation and end‑of‑life care.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the ward on a day‑to‑day basis, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
• Supervise registered and unregistered staff, as well as student nurses.
• Coordinate complex discharges in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members, patients and families.
• Support the Senior Charge Nurse by assisting with ward management and quality improvement initiatives.
• Make confident clinical decisions without direct supervision.

Required profile

• Full registration with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Ability to work flexibly across day or night shifts to meet 24/7 service demands.
• Strong leadership and decision‑making skills.
• Motivated, adaptable and committed to continuous improvement.

Required skills

• UK NMC registration (mandatory).
