Children's Social Worker – Assessment & Intervention

About the role

Our client, a Greater Manchester Council, is seeking a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join its Assessment & Intervention team in Oldham. The role involves conducting statutory assessments, safeguarding children, and delivering targeted support to families in need.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake statutory assessments and interventions under the Children Act 1989.
• Develop and implement child protection, child‑in‑need, and support‑care plans.
• Apply a strengths‑based, trauma‑informed approach to promote sustainable change.
• Collaborate with health, education, police and other multi‑agency partners.
• Facilitate family meetings and planning sessions to empower families.
• Maintain accurate case records in line with legislation and guidance.
• Manage a varied caseload balancing urgent safeguarding with long‑term support.
• Participate in reflective supervision and service improvement activities.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
• Minimum three years post‑qualifying social work experience.
• Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and safeguarding procedures.
• Ability to manage a caseload and work under pressure.
• Excellent communication and multi‑agency collaboration skills.
