Children's Team Manager - Safeguarding

About the role

The Children's Team Manager will lead the Safeguarding team for Stockport MBC, ensuring day‑to‑day operational excellence and compliance with local authority policies. This full‑time, temporary position reports to the Service Manager and works closely with internal and external partners to protect vulnerable children.

Key responsibilities

• Provide operational leadership and manage the Safeguarding team’s performance.
• Allocate work, approve interventions, and authorise abuse investigation reports and risk assessments.
• Chair safeguarding meetings and ensure timely completion of second‑tier enquiries.
• Support implementation of safeguarding enquiry reports, protection plans and risk assessments.
• Develop processes to meet the Local Authority’s duty as Supervisory Body for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
• Supervise team members, conduct performance management and return‑to‑work interviews.
• Monitor budget, assets and resources to deliver services efficiently.
• Collaborate with the Service Manager on change initiatives and lead agreed projects.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing safeguarding or social‑care teams.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, local authority policies and multi‑agency working.
• Ability to make informed decisions, provide guidance and support to staff.
• Excellent communication skills for internal and external stakeholder engagement.
• Experience in performance management, budgeting and project delivery.
