Civils Team Lead

About the role

Penguin Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Chartered Civil Engineer to lead its civil engineering service within a multidisciplinary consultancy. Based in Bedford (with the option to work from Southampton), you will shape technical solutions, develop client relationships and drive the growth of the civil team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering projects from feasibility through detailed design, construction support and completion.
• Prepare and review designs for highways, access, drainage, SuDS, flood risk, external works and infrastructure.
• Identify constraints, risks and opportunities such as utilities, ground conditions, buildability and statutory requirements.
• Manage scope, programmes, fees, resources, quality, risk and change control across multiple commissions.
• Review calculations, drawings, specifications and technical outputs produced by engineers and technicians.
• Champion the use of drainage, highway, CAD and BIM software, ensuring high technical standards.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects successfully.
• Liaise with planning authorities, highway authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities, water companies and the Environment Agency.
• Support Directors with fee proposals, tenders and business development.
• Mentor and develop engineers and technicians, fostering technical excellence.

Required profile

• Chartered Civil Engineer with proven experience leading civil engineering projects.
• Strong knowledge of highways, drainage, flood risk, SuDS and infrastructure design.
• Ability to manage project scope, budgets, programmes and risk.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
