Client Accountant – Hybrid, Stockport

About the role

This is a hybrid position based in Stockport with a leading, progressive accountancy practice. The role combines accounts preparation, tax compliance, management accounts, business advisory and team management. You will own a varied portfolio of owner‑managed businesses, act as the main client contact and ensure work is delivered accurately and on time.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of limited companies, LLPs, partnerships and sole traders.
• Prepare and review year‑end accounts, corporation tax computations, personal tax returns and Capital Gains Tax calculations.
• Oversee bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and management accounting services.
• Produce management information, budgets, cash‑flow forecasts and performance analysis.
• Provide practical advice on tax planning, profitability, financial controls and process improvement.
• Review work completed by junior colleagues, ensuring quality and deadlines are met.
• Act as the key client contact, attend meetings and build strong relationships.
• Manage portfolio workflow, billing, work‑in‑progress and client onboarding.

Required profile

• Minimum five years’ experience in a UK accountancy practice.
• ACA or ACCA qualified, part‑qualified or qualified by experience.
• Strong experience preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and tax returns.
• Experience managing a portfolio of owner‑managed businesses.
• Good knowledge of corporation tax, personal tax, VAT and capital allowances.
• Exposure to management accounts, cash‑flow forecasting and business advisory work.
• Experience supervising, reviewing and developing junior colleagues.
