Client Manager & Accountant – SME Portfolio

About the role

We are looking for a commercially‑minded Client Manager / Accountant to join a growing independent practice in the North West. You will own a diverse portfolio of SME, owner‑managed and limited company clients, delivering high‑quality accounting services and strategic advice.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of SME clients across multiple sectors.
• Prepare and review statutory accounts in line with UK GAAP (FRS 102/105).
• Oversee VAT returns, corporation tax computations and other compliance work.
• Produce and analyse management accounts, offering actionable insights.
• Mentor junior staff and review their work.
• Act as the primary point of contact, building lasting client relationships.

Required profile

• Proven experience in an accountancy practice.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to provide value‑added advice.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff (desirable).
• Qualified via AAT, ACCA, ACA or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero, Sage or QuickBooks (or similar accounting software).
