Clinical Ward Fellow – Inpatient Care

About the role

The Clinical Ward Fellow provides direct inpatient care at Cleveland Clinic London, managing acute surgical and selected medical patients under consultant supervision. The role offers exposure to a high‑reliability environment and supports professional development.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver daily care for in‑patients as part of the clinical fellow workforce.
• Collaborate with specialist consultants and nursing staff to meet treatment and care needs.
• Participate in a 24‑7 rolling rota covering the surgical unit.
• Lead new admissions, conduct inpatient consultations and attend multidisciplinary ward rounds.
• Identify patients suitable for early mobilisation or at risk of prolonged stay.
• Engage in clinical governance, education, training and research activities.
• Complete mandatory training, including use of the Epic electronic medical record system.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Full GMC registration with a current licence to practise.
• Minimum two years of hospital experience after foundation training, including peri‑operative management.
• Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise clinical tasks and make sound clinical judgments.
• Strong communication, leadership and teamwork skills, with a supportive and empathetic attitude.
• Commitment to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and continuous learning.

Required skills

• Venipuncture and blood‑culture collection.
• Arterial blood sampling.
• Nasogastric tube insertion.
• Urethral catheter placement.
• Use of the Epic electronic medical record system.
• Basic peri‑operative assessment and management of surgical patients.
