Commodity Buyer (Meat & Protein)

About the role

DB Foods, a leading independent meat wholesaler in the UK, is expanding its commercial team. We are seeking an experienced Commodity Buyer to manage the purchase and trading of beef, pork, lamb and poultry across UK and international markets.

Key responsibilities

• Buy and trade meat and protein products across domestic and overseas markets.
• Monitor commodity market trends, pricing and supply risks.
• Negotiate prices, contracts, rebates and supplier agreements.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and processors.
• Source new products and suppliers to improve competitiveness.
• Balance stock purchasing to ensure availability while maximising profitability.
• Collaborate with Sales and Operations to meet customer demand.
• Identify opportunities to improve margin and contribute to buying strategy.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Commodity Buyer, Meat Buyer, Protein Buyer or similar procurement role.
• Background in food manufacturing, wholesale, retail or FMCG.
• Strong negotiation and supplier management capabilities.
• Good commercial awareness and ability to manage commodity risk.
• Confidence making buying decisions in a fast‑moving market.
