Community Mentor – Support Vulnerable Children in High Wycombe

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Community Mentor to work with vulnerable children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education. Based in High Wycombe, you will deliver one‑to‑one educational and pastoral support in homes and community settings, helping pupils re‑engage with learning, build confidence and achieve positive outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide personalised 1:1 learning and engagement activities for pupils with SEN, SEMH, autism, ADHD and anxiety.
- Build trusting relationships with pupils, families and external professionals.
- Monitor progress, record outcomes and liaise with schools, therapists and other agencies.
- Deliver pastoral and behaviour support to promote wellbeing and attendance.
- Travel across Buckinghamshire and Berkshire to reach pupils in their homes and community venues.
Required profile
- Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs.
- Background in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, pastoral care, behaviour support or social care.
- Patient, resilient and adaptable attitude.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Required skills
What we offer
- Daily rate of £120‑£180, dependent on experience.
- Fuel allowance.
- Long‑term contract with potential permanent placement.
- Varied, rewarding work with ongoing support from Academics and the Alternative Provision provider.
