Compliance Officer (Planning Enforcement)

About the role

The Compliance Officer will ensure that all development within the borough complies with approved planning permissions and associated conditions. You will investigate potential breaches, engage with landowners and the public, and support the planning authority in enforcing decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Log and assess investigation requests and research site histories for planning breaches.
• Visit sites, conduct surveys, and gather evidence, including interviewing owners, occupiers and the public.
• Negotiate compliance solutions and liaise with Legal Services and other relevant departments.
• Prepare detailed reports, issue notices, and compile documentation for enforcement actions.
• Present evidence at written representations, informal hearings, public inquiries and court proceedings.
• Support proactive enforcement projects and improve public liaison for planning enforcement.
• Assist with prosecutions under the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) regulations as required.
