Cover Supervisor – Secondary Schools (London)

About the role

Hays Education is partnering with a range of secondary schools across London to provide high‑quality cover supervision. This temporary, full‑time role offers graduates and aspiring teachers the chance to gain hands‑on classroom experience while supporting continuity of learning during teacher absences.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise full classes across Key Stages 3 and 4 during teacher absence.
• Deliver pre‑prepared lesson materials and keep students on task.
• Manage classroom behaviour in line with each school’s policies.
• Support pupils to complete work independently.
• Build positive relationships with students aged 11‑16 (and up to 18 in some settings).
• Provide feedback to teaching staff on student engagement and behaviour.

Required profile

• Experience working with young people aged 11‑16 (e.g., tutoring, coaching, youth work).
• Confidence leading a classroom and managing behaviour effectively.
• Strong communication skills and a calm, authoritative presence.
• Flexibility to adapt to different subjects and school settings.
• Willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
• A degree or relevant school‑based experience is highly advantageous.
