Cover Supervisor (Unqualified Teacher) – Secondary Schools

About the role

Edstaff is partnering with several secondary schools in and around Wigan to recruit enthusiastic Cover Supervisors on a temporary supply basis. This position is ideal for graduates, career changers, or anyone considering a future in teaching who wants hands‑on classroom experience without the need to plan or mark lessons.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise whole‑class sessions across Key Stages 3 and 4 during teachers’ short‑term absences.
• Deliver pre‑planned lesson materials and keep students on task.
• Promote positive behaviour and manage classroom discipline in line with school policies.
• Support pupils with their learning activities across the curriculum.
• Take accurate registers and report any concerns to senior staff.
• Assist with general school duties as required and adhere to all school procedures.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent qualification.
• Experience working with young people aged 11‑16.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Confident classroom presence, flexible and adaptable.
• Reliable, punctual and professional attitude.
• Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one.
