About the role

The Royal College of Surgeons of England is seeking a Director of Education to lead the strategic development and delivery of its education programmes. Based in London with a hybrid working model, the role will shape the future of learning, assessment and professional development for surgeons and healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the College’s education strategy in line with its overall mission.
• Drive innovation in learning, assessment and delivery models, ensuring accessibility and sustainability.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal senior leaders, external partners, and professional bodies.
• Oversee the design and continuous improvement of curricula, courses and assessment tools.
• Contribute to organisational transformation initiatives and champion high‑quality learner experiences.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in education, learning, assessment or professional development.
• Demonstrated ability to shape and execute education strategy.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Understanding of innovative, future‑focused learning approaches.
• Collaborative, values‑led leadership style.
