Director of Learning – Alternative Provision College

About the role

We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Director of Learning to join the Executive Leadership Team of an alternative provision college in West Sussex. This senior role will shape curriculum, inclusion and outcomes for vulnerable young people across multiple provisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead curriculum development and maintain high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
• Drive school improvement, inclusion and staff development across all sites.
• Promote trauma‑informed, relational and inclusive practice.
• Oversee pupil progress, attendance, behaviour and engagement strategies.
• Develop innovative, accessible curriculum pathways, including vocational provision.
• Collaborate with schools, external agencies and multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).
• Proven senior leadership experience in education.
• Strong understanding of SEND, SEMH and alternative provision.
• Passion for inclusive, trauma‑informed education.
• Ability to inspire, lead and develop staff teams.
• Resilient, strategic and committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable pupils.
