Director of Town Planning

About the role

Our client, a leading planning consultancy in London, is seeking a Director of Town Planning to lead high‑profile development projects across the capital and the South East. The role offers a strategic platform to shape residential, commercial and regeneration schemes while driving business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage complex planning projects from inception to delivery.
• Provide strategic planning advice to private and public sector clients.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships and identify business development opportunities.
• Oversee planning appraisals, applications, appeals and representations.
• Negotiate with local authorities, stakeholders and consultees.
• Support business development, networking and profile‑raising activities.
• Mentor and develop junior and mid‑level planning professionals.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the wider planning team.

Required profile

• MRTPI qualified with substantial post‑qualification experience.
• Proven track record in a planning consultancy, property consultancy, developer or local authority.
• Deep knowledge of the UK planning system and policy framework.
• Experience managing major planning applications and development projects.
• Established client network and business development capability.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills.
• Commercially aware with an entrepreneurial approach.
