Electrical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading switchgear manufacturing organisation in Gateshead. You will design, develop and support electrical systems for a range of sectors including power, healthcare and construction.

Key responsibilities

• Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and layout drawings for switchgear systems.
• Develop solutions that comply with BS EN 61439‑2 standards using CAD tools.
• Collaborate with project engineers and production teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
• Provide technical support during installation and commissioning, delivering comprehensive documentation.
• Ensure designs meet ISO 9001:2015 quality standards and health & safety policies.
• Participate in design reviews, propose improvements and support retro‑fitting or upgrade projects.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience in switchgear design and electrical systems.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and EPLAN design software.
• Strong knowledge of BS EN 61439‑2 and ISO 9001:2015 standards.
• Effective problem‑solving and communication abilities.
