Employee Relations Specialist

About the role

Travis Perkins is looking for an Employee Relations Specialist to join its HR Shared Service Employee Relations team in Northampton. You will manage ER cases and give effective, efficient, responsive and commercial advice and support by phone to all businesses in the Group, with a continuous improvement mindset. The role is full time (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday) and starts with five days in the office during training and induction, then moves to a hybrid pattern of 2-3 days in the office per week.

Key responsibilities

• Provide professional guidance and Employee Relations advice to colleagues, managers and senior leaders across the Group by telephone.
• Work with managers and senior leaders, advising and coaching them toward the best outcome for ER issues.
• Manage end-to-end cases such as disciplinary, appeal, grievance and long-term sickness cases; attend hearings for complex cases and give face-to-face advice to management in exceptional circumstances.
• Ensure advice is commercial, impartial, consistent, legally compliant and aligned with company policies, and analyse risks and costs to the business.
• Cover weekend and bank holiday emergencies by phone, with an on-call allowance (about seven times per year).

Required profile

• Experience in a similar HR role handling ER cases (disciplinary, grievance, appeal, long-term sickness).
• Excellent communication skills and ability to multitask under pressure.
• Up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and a good understanding of data protection principles.
• Ability to handle difficult or complex situations and to challenge respectfully at all levels.
• Driving licence and own mode of transport.
