Employment Solicitor – Head of Department

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Employment Solicitor to establish and lead a new Employment Law department within a growing regional law firm. You will enjoy genuine autonomy to shape the service, build a client base and recruit a future team while influencing the firm’s strategic direction.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a personal caseload of contentious and non‑contentious employment matters.
• Oversee employment disputes, advisory work and tribunal proceedings.
• Develop relationships with local businesses, referrers and professional contacts.
• Define and implement the department’s strategy, service offering and market profile.
• Recruit, supervise and mentor team members as the practice expands.
• Identify cross‑referral opportunities across the wider firm.
• Monitor departmental performance, billing and profitability.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor authorised to practise in England and Wales.
• 6–10+ years post‑qualification experience in employment law.
• Strong technical knowledge of employment legislation.
• Commercial awareness and a proactive business‑development mindset.
• Proven client‑management and communication abilities.
• Previous supervisory or management experience.
• Existing referral network or following is advantageous.

• Employment law expertise (contentious and advisory).
