About the role
The Environment Agency is seeking a qualified lawyer to provide high‑quality legal advice and support for its environmental regulatory work across England. You will work with operational teams, handle civil enforcement actions, and represent the agency in courts and tribunals.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver timely advice on waste and installation regulation to operational teams.
- Manage civil enforcement actions and liaise with local and national government partners.
- Represent the agency in court proceedings, including judicial reviews and statutory appeals.
- Collaborate with Legal Services colleagues on prosecutions, flood‑risk matters, and other specialisms.
- Support flexible working arrangements and contribute to an inclusive workplace.
Required profile
- Fully qualified solicitor, barrister or legal executive entitled to practise in England and Wales.
- Excellent communication and drafting abilities, with experience advising non‑legal stakeholders.
- Confidence handling contentious matters and civil enforcement cases.
- Customer‑focused, well‑organised and a strong team player.
- Desirable experience in environmental law or a regulatory body.
