Estates Engineer – Mechanical & Electrical (Static Role)

About the role

Join a hospital estates maintenance team as an Estates Engineer, working on static sites in Chelmsford or Basildon. You will ensure critical mechanical and electrical services remain operational 24/7, supporting safe patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on generators, fire alarm systems, lighting and power installations.
• Maintain boilers, air handling units, chillers, ventilation, hot and cold water services, and medical gas systems.
• Respond to breakdowns, emergency alarms and critical faults, restoring services quickly and safely.
• Complete accurate maintenance records, risk assessments and CAFM documentation.
• Liaise with contractors, clinical teams and internal departments to minimise disruption.

Required profile

• Approved apprenticeship in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• City & Guilds or comparable technical qualification.
• Significant post‑apprenticeship experience in building services or maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and risk assessment processes.
• Ability to read technical schematics and diagnose complex faults.
• Proficient with maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office.
