About the role
The Family Liaison Officer will join the pastoral team of a thriving secondary school in Tendring, Essex. This full‑time position supports students and their families, helping to remove barriers to learning and promote wellbeing. You will act as the essential bridge between home and school, fostering positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and external agencies.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong, supportive relationships with students and their families.
- Provide guidance to families facing challenges that affect attendance, wellbeing or academic progress.
- Collaborate with attendance, safeguarding, pastoral and SEND teams to identify and address learning barriers.
- Conduct home visits when appropriate and keep clear, regular communication with families.
- Liaise with external agencies and support services to coordinate interventions.
- Promote parental engagement and strengthen home‑school partnerships.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding and welfare procedures.
Required profile
- Experience working with children, young people or families in education, community, health or social‑care settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships.
- Caring, empathetic and resilient approach.
- Strong organisational skills and capacity to manage a varied workload.
- Understanding of safeguarding practices.
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (advantageous).
