Finance & Income Officer – Public Sector Housing

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance & Income Officer to join a busy public‑sector housing finance team. You will support income and expenditure activity across temporary accommodation and housing services, ensuring accurate records, compliant processing and strong financial control in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on support for income and expenditure activity, maintaining accurate records and meeting internal control deadlines.
• Process supplier invoices, raise purchase orders, and ensure correct coding and authorisation in line with purchase‑to‑pay procedures.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end reconciliations, investigate variances and support accruals and financial adjustments.
• Use corporate finance systems (Business World / Unit4) to track expenditure, produce basic reports and maintain audit trails.
• Apply strong MS Excel skills to manage spreadsheets, monitor budgets and support reconciliation activity.

Required profile

• Proven experience working in a local authority or public‑sector finance environment.
• Ability to operate effectively in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven setting.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain clear audit documentation.
• Collaborative approach to working with finance, housing and supplier teams.

What we offer

• Hybrid working model – 3 days in the office, 2 days remote.
• Hourly rate £23.05 PAYE / £30.09 Umbrella.
• 3‑month fixed‑term contract with the possibility of extension.
• Full‑time schedule, Monday‑Friday, 35 hours per week.
