Finance Manager – Construction Business

About the role

Our client, a growing construction business based in Sittingbourne, is seeking a Finance Manager to own the finance function. The role combines hands‑on transactional work with strategic reporting and business partnering, offering broad responsibility across management accounts, payroll, cashflow and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, profit & loss statements and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Produce project performance reports, cost‑value reconciliations and cash‑flow forecasts.
• Execute daily bank reconciliations, manage purchase ledger, and run weekly supplier payments.
• Process monthly payroll, CIS returns, quarterly VAT returns and ONS surveys.
• Support year‑end schedules and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
• Validate employee timesheets against vehicle tracking data and provide HR administration support.
• Develop and enhance reporting tools, including Excel spreadsheets and VBA/macros.
• Identify and implement process improvements across the finance function.

Required profile

• AAT qualification or equivalent.
• Previous finance experience within the construction sector.
• Strong knowledge of management accounts, CIS, VAT and payroll.
• Highly organised, detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple priorities.
• Proactive communicator with solid problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel.
• VBA/macros development.
