Finance Manager

About the role

We are partnering with a fast‑growing, privately owned construction business in Manchester to recruit a Finance Manager. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will own the month‑end process, lead the annual audit, ensure statutory compliance and help embed a newly implemented ERP system across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of month‑end close, producing accurate P&L and balance‑sheet reports.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations, journal entries and maintain the fixed‑asset register.
• Prepare overhead reporting, monthly re‑forecasts and Board packs for senior leadership.
• Lead the external audit, act as primary contact for auditors and prepare year‑end audit files.
• Manage VAT, CIS and Corporation Tax compliance, including HMRC submissions.
• Oversee statutory reporting such as CITB, Prompt Payment, Gender Pay Gap and Carbon Reporting.
• Coordinate monthly re‑forecasting of the five‑year business plan and provide performance insights.
• Partner with commercial and operational teams to improve financial understanding and drive performance.
• Support ongoing development and optimisation of the ERP system and drive finance transformation projects.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with experience in financial reporting, audit and compliance.
• Proven ability to work in a lean, high‑performing finance team and influence finance strategy.
• Strong analytical mindset and a desire to improve processes and challenge the status quo.
