Financial Controller – Manufacturing (East Sussex)

About the role

Grafton Banks Limited is seeking a qualified Financial Controller to lead the finance function of a growing UK manufacturing business in East Sussex. The role will take over from a retiring controller and offers a pathway to a future Financial Director position.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for the parent company in line with group guidelines.
• Lead UK management and board meetings and liaise with US subsidiaries.
• Develop and refine month‑end closing procedures, including accruals, tax reserves and IFRS implementation.
• Analyse financial data, produce management reports and support external stakeholders such as lenders and vendors.
• Oversee tax planning, corporate tax returns and multi‑currency/forex accounting.
• Manage relationships with auditors and banks.
• Prepare statutory annual accounts and cash‑flow forecasts.
• Lead, mentor and develop a finance team of four.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) with at least 8 years post‑qualification experience.
• Significant experience in the manufacturing sector and in SME environments.
• Proven track record of handling monthly accounts, quarterly and year‑end reporting.
• Demonstrated long‑term employment (5+ years) with previous employers.
