Functional Skills Tutor (1-1) – St Helens

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated 1‑to‑1 Functional Skills Tutor to work with young learners in the St Helens area. The role combines classroom tuition of core functional skills with mentoring activities that help pupils integrate into their community, develop CVs, and plan for their future.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver functional skills tuition (literacy, numeracy, etc.) on a one‑to‑one basis.
• Provide mentoring support, including local trips, life‑skills coaching, and CV writing assistance.
• Assist pupils in setting personal and educational goals.
• Collaborate with other staff to ensure a holistic approach to each learner’s development.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience working with SEND or disengaged pupils in the UK.
• Creative, patient, and able to think outside the box.
• Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
• Two professional child‑related references.
