General Foreperson

About the role

Costain is seeking an experienced General Foreperson to join its Project Delivery team for large‑scale wastewater infrastructure projects. The role spans pre‑construction buildability work and on‑site delivery, requiring strong strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate activities across individual wastewater projects.
• Communicate with suppliers, subcontractors, engineering, safety, environmental, and client teams.
• Deliver project requirements, identify training needs, review workforce performance, and conduct briefings.
• Maintain high quality standards to meet specifications and minimise rework.
• Prepare accurate allocation sheets, delivery tickets, and plant returns for engineering and commercial teams.
• Keep all inspection records, permits, and briefings up to date.
• Perform regular safety and environmental inspections and act on findings.
• Maintain a detailed daily site diary, recording variations, subcontractor attendance, and key discussions.

Required profile

• Previous experience on multidisciplinary projects including Civils and MEICA, preferably in the water sector.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑contractor and multi‑disciplined teams on medium or large‑scale wastewater projects.
• Strong decision‑making skills, able to consult relevant parties and act agilely.
• Demonstrated capability to outperform tight budgets through programme development, risk and opportunity management, and innovative production methods.
