General Operative – Civil Engineering (Inverness)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Operative to join our Inverness team on the DV2 water framework joint‑venture. You will support civil‑engineering projects from start to finish, working on excavations, pipe installations and concrete works while maintaining high health‑and‑safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out general labouring duties, including unloading materials manually and mechanically.
• Assist with excavations, pipe‑laying, manhole construction and benching.
• Perform concrete works, bricklaying and concrete finishing as required.
• Operate hand, power and percussive tools safely under site‑manager guidance.
• Maintain site housekeeping, welfare facilities and COVID‑related cleanliness.
• Follow site‑specific health‑and‑safety rules and report hazards.

Required profile

• Proven experience on civil‑engineering construction sites.
• Ability to work safely, follow instructions and communicate with site management.
• Flexible attitude, problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Honesty, integrity and pride in workmanship.

Required skills

• CSCS Card (essential).
• DOMS or EUSR certification (essential).
• NRSWA accreditation (preferred).
• CPCS roller and dumper training.
• Slinger / banksman training.
• Potable water mains laying and installation.
• Waste‑water pipe laying, manhole construction and benching.
• Bricklaying, concrete works and concrete finishing.
