Graduate Teaching Assistant – Primary (Braintree)

About the role
We are seeking a recent university graduate to join a mainstream primary school in Braintree as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. This full‑time, term‑time position offers hands‑on experience supporting children with autism and other special educational needs while working closely with teachers and senior leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with children who have SEND needs, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Manage and de‑escalate challenging behaviour using a range of techniques.
- Build strong relationships with parents and carers.
- Develop creative activities to keep learners engaged.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher, SENCO and senior leadership team to ensure successful outcomes.
Required profile
- Passionate about working with children with SEN.
- Natural relationship builder with excellent communication skills.
- Able to commute to or reside locally in Braintree.
- Reliable, flexible and eager to improve outcomes for children with additional needs.
- Recent graduate (any discipline, preferably Maths, English, Psychology or a creative subject).
Required skills
- No specific technical skills required.
What we offer
- Daily rate of £95‑£100 (PAYE).
- Full support from teachers, senior leadership and SENCO.
- Potential for permanent employment after the term‑time placement.
