Gully (Vactor) Cleaning Operative

About the role

You will join M Group Highways' highways maintenance team to operate a vactor unit, maintaining drainage assets across the UK road network. The role involves field work, data entry via tablets, and responding to winter and emergency maintenance calls.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a vactor/gully wagon to clean and maintain highway drainage assets.
• Record safety data and maintenance activities using tablet applications.
• Drive and operate plant and equipment where trained, taking responsibility for vehicles, plant and materials.
• Supervise less‑experienced operatives when required.
• Participate in out‑of‑hours standby rota for winter and emergency work.
• Assist with other highway maintenance tasks such as pothole repair, patching, footway work, and general drainage duties during downtime.

Required profile

• Clean driving licence.
• HGV / LGV Class C driving licence.
• CSCS Card.
• Commitment to health and safety.
• Ability to perform manual work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Required skills

• Vactor or gully wagon operation experience.
• High‑pressure jetting and gully emptying qualification.
• New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) Operative Accreditation.
• Lantra 12d certification.
