Head of Business and Nature

About the role

BirdLife International is seeking a senior leader to drive its global engagement with the private sector and deliver its Business Engagement Strategy. The role provides strategic leadership, builds high‑impact business collaborations, and represents BirdLife with senior business, investor and government partners.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and lead the global Biodiversity and Business Engagement Strategy, positioning BirdLife as a leading voice on business and nature finance.
• Develop and manage a portfolio of business partnerships that embed biodiversity into corporate strategy, investment and decision‑making.
• Lead the Business and Nature team, overseeing budgeting, planning and performance against organisational priorities.
• Represent BirdLife with senior leaders, investors and international partners to accelerate nature‑positive business outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience at the intersection of business, biodiversity and sustainable development.
• Deep understanding of nature‑related risk frameworks such as TNFD, SBTN and Nature Positive.
• Track record of building strategic partnerships that deliver measurable conservation impact.
• Collaborative, inclusive leadership style with strong communication and relationship‑building skills.

Required skills

• Experience in business engagement, corporate sustainability or environmental management.
• Knowledge of sectors such as renewable energy, extractives, fisheries, agriculture or finance.
• Ability to manage complex programmes, teams and budgets across diverse geographies.
