Head of Devonport Submarine Infrastructure

About the role

The Submarine Delivery Agency is seeking a senior leader to head the Devonport Submarine Infrastructure portfolio. Based at HMNB Devonport, this role oversees major infrastructure programmes that support the UK’s nuclear‑powered submarine fleet.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary team of around 60 civil servants, military personnel and contractors.
• Act as the intelligent client, defining requirements, securing funding and developing clear specifications for major projects.
• Negotiate with industry partners to obtain value‑for‑money solutions while ensuring compliance with MOD approvals.
• Deliver programmes on budget, schedule and performance standards, maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.
• Manage key projects such as the Submarine Waterfront Infrastructure Future, Submarine Refit Complex, and new infrastructure supporting future submarine programmes.

Required profile

• UK national, due to the high level of security clearance required.
• Extensive experience in leading large‑scale infrastructure or defence programmes.
• Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and navigate complex procurement processes.
