About the role
We are seeking an ambitious and inspirational Head of English to lead the English department at a highly regarded independent school in Maidstone. This permanent, full‑time position starts in September 2026 and offers the chance to shape curriculum and drive achievement across KS3, KS4 and KS5.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the English curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Lead, mentor and support teaching staff, fostering professional development.
- Monitor and raise student outcomes through effective assessment and data analysis.
- Promote a culture of confidence, creativity and a passion for English among students.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to contribute to the wider success of the school.
Required profile
- Qualified English Teacher (QTS or equivalent) with solid classroom experience.
- Proven experience in leading or contributing to an English department.
- Confidence teaching across KS3, KS4 and preferably KS5.
- Strong understanding of curriculum planning and assessment.
- Inspirational leadership style with the ability to motivate colleagues.
