Head of Family Department

About the role

We are an ambitious law firm establishing a new Family Law department and are looking for a senior solicitor to lead it from the ground up. This is a unique chance to shape strategy, build a team and have a direct impact on the firm’s growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and grow the Family Law department from inception.
• Manage and mentor junior solicitors, paralegals and support staff.
• Drive business development, networking and client acquisition.
• Handle a broad caseload of privately funded family matters, including divorce, finances and child arrangements.
• Contribute to the firm’s strategic direction and long‑term growth.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and referrers.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England and Wales, ideally 5+ years PQE.
• Extensive experience in Family Law – divorce, financial remedy and private children matters.
• Proven experience managing or supervising a team, or clear leadership capability.
• Strong business development mindset with ability to generate work.
• Excellent communication, client care and organisational skills.
• Ambition to own a department and progress towards partnership or equity.
