Head of Finance – Charity Sector

About the role

The Freelands Foundation seeks a Head of Finance to shape and execute its financial strategy, supporting rapid growth, a major capital project, and expanded programmes. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, you will lead the finance function and ensure compliance with UK and US charity regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead annual budgeting, re‑forecasting and scenario modelling across the organisation.
• Produce monthly management accounts and high‑quality financial reports for senior leadership and the Board.
• Maintain accurate cash‑flow forecasts and manage relationships with banking partners and financial software providers.
• Oversee the year‑end audit, statutory accounts, and ensure compliance with Charity Commission and Companies House requirements.
• Prepare and file US tax returns, including FBAR and Form 990‑PF.
• Line‑manage the Finance Officer and support departmental budget holders.

Required profile

• Qualified chartered accountant with at least five years’ senior‑level experience.
• Significant experience in finance leadership within the charity sector.
• In‑depth knowledge of UK Charity SORP and US Private Foundation regulations.
