Head of Finance – Local Authority (6‑9 months)

About the role

The Local Authority in London is seeking a Head of Finance for a 6‑9 month assignment. The role is full‑time, with one day per week on site, and offers a daily rate of up to £750. The successful candidate will start on short notice and will provide strategic financial leadership across the council.

Key responsibilities

• Provide proactive expert advice to members, the Director, Head of Service and managers on financial and capital strategy and accounting.
• Develop and implement the council's financial strategy, liaising with central government, external agencies and other local authorities.
• Develop and implement the council's capital strategy and capital accounting framework.
• Monitor developments in local government funding, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Identify, forecast and manage funding sources, assessing associated risks.
• Advise on ways to maximise the council's financial resources.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
• Proven experience in senior financial leadership within the public sector or large organisations.
• Ability to start at short notice.
