Head of Governance, Risk and Assurance

About the role

The Head of Governance, Risk and Assurance will lead the development and execution of governance, risk and assurance frameworks for Surrey Police. This full‑time temporary position is based in Guildford and offers a daily rate of £750.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain the organisation's risk management framework, ensuring consistent identification and mitigation of risks.
• Design and oversee effective governance arrangements, including assurance mapping and internal/external activities.
• Lead HMICFRS inspections, manage evidence, and track actions to ensure compliance.
• Promote organisational learning from audits and incidents, embedding improvements across the service.
• Provide strategic advice to senior leaders on governance and risk matters.

Required profile

• Graduate qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
• Professional accreditation in risk management, governance, audit or assurance.
• Significant senior‑level experience in governance or risk within policing or a similarly regulated public sector.
• Advanced analytical ability and strong professional judgement.
