Head of Maintenance & Infrastructure

About the role

The university is seeking an experienced Head of Maintenance & Infrastructure to lead the delivery of maintenance and engineering services across its extensive estate. This senior position combines strategic oversight with hands‑on management of both planned and reactive maintenance activities in a hybrid working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the campus estate.
• Ensure full statutory and regulatory compliance, including health & safety, building safety and gas safety duties.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams covering mechanical, electrical, fabric and energy engineering.
• Oversee CAFM systems, PPM schedules and maintenance performance metrics.
• Control a budget of approximately £3.5 million, ensuring value for money and effective procurement.
• Act as Responsible Person and Duty Holder for asbestos, permits to work and other safety obligations.
• Manage contracts, suppliers and service‑level agreements.
• Drive continuous improvement, technical standards and long‑term maintenance strategy.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience within Hard FM, estates or engineering environments.
• Extensive knowledge of building services and relevant compliance legislation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex estates and asset portfolios.
• Strong budget management experience.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Degree in Engineering, Building Services or equivalent experience.
