Head of Project Assurance and Governance

About the role

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a senior leader to head Project Assurance and Governance across its national Project Delivery Function. You will be responsible for strengthening assurance, governance and corporate oversight, ensuring delivery confidence in a complex, high‑profile environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide second‑line assurance services and coordinate representation on MoJ project, programme and portfolio boards.
• Lead Keyholder, Gateway and Functional Maturity Reviews, delivering annual capability assessments.
• Offer expert advice to NISTA on project assurance and continuous improvement.
• Oversee MoJ Corporate Assurance activities, tracking the Business and Transformation Plans.
• Engage with Senior Responsible Owners and governance groups to ensure robust third‑line assurance.
• Manage information flow between project boards, oversight committees and assurance forums, delivering an independent functional view of performance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in project assurance, governance or related senior leadership roles.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and build strong cross‑functional relationships.
• Track record of leading high‑performing, inclusive teams in complex organisations.
• Strong strategic insight and ability to translate standards into actionable oversight.
