HR Business Partner - 9 Month Fixed Term Contract

About the role

Toolstation, part of Travis Perkins plc, is looking for an accomplished People Partner to join its Northampton site for a 9-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. The role is hybrid, with regular travel to Middleton, Northampton and Redditch, and ideally requires living close to Northampton. It starts on 1st January 2027 and offers a competitive salary plus car allowance and benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the Leadership Team (Directors, Divisional Heads and General Managers) to align local site strategy with wider business initiatives.
• Build leadership and team capabilities, driving succession planning so current managers become future leaders.
• Act as a change agent, embedding new technologies and operational changes with minimal disruption.
• Cultivate a high-performing culture focused on achievement, wellbeing, inclusivity and continuous improvement.
• Advise on complex employee relations and organisational design.
• Use data to spot trends, anticipate workforce concerns and act on evidence.
• Lead upskilling, including apprenticeship programmes and learning platforms.

Required profile

• 5 to 8+ years in progressive People roles, ideally in retail logistics, support functions and partnering through change and transformation.
• Proven experience embedding in a business function and turning operational goals into a People plan.
• Natural influencer who builds trusting relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
• Data-literate, critical thinker who backs decisions with evidence.
• Adaptable communicator able to stay positive in emotionally charged situations, with strong self-awareness.
• An HR qualification (e.g. CIPD, degree) is valued but not essential.
