Infection Prevention and Control Nurse – Banbury & Milton Keynes

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead Nurse to work across Cherwell Hospital in Banbury and Blakelands Hospital in Milton Keynes. The role involves providing evidence‑based IPC clinical advice, leading surveillance and prevention activities, and ensuring high standards of safety for patients, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead surveillance, prevention and control of infections across both hospital sites.
• Promote and maintain high standards of IPC practice, including hand hygiene and aseptic non‑touch technique (ANTT).
• Deliver mandatory IPC training and education to multidisciplinary staff.
• Conduct audits, surgical site infection surveillance and contribute to policy and procedure development.
• Report incidents using the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and support continuous quality improvement.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a degree or equivalent experience and current NMC registration.
• Recent experience in an acute surgical care environment.
• Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development in IPC.

• Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) expertise.
• Hand Hygiene and Aseptic Non‑Touch Technique (ANTT) knowledge.
• Surgical site infection surveillance and audit experience.
• Policy and procedure writing.
