Interim Director of Finance – Strategic Budgeting Lead

About the role

This is a 6‑9 month interim assignment for an experienced finance leader to support a major public sector organisation during a critical financial transformation. Reporting to the executive leadership team, you will provide senior finance leadership and ensure continuity across the finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the finance function.
• Lead the design and implementation of a strategic budgeting framework.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align financial resources with organisational priorities.
• Drive resource allocation, medium‑term financial planning and budgeting activities.
• Support budget development and financial decision‑making across the organisation.
• Maintain strong governance, financial control and reporting arrangements.

Required profile

• A recognised professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Significant senior finance leadership experience.
• Proven experience leading strategic budgeting, financial planning and resource prioritisation programmes.
• Strong commercial and strategic thinking with the ability to link financial decisions to organisational outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and build relationships across functions.
• Track record of leading through change and supporting organisational transformation.
