IT Apprentice – Level 3

About the role

Join the Department of Biochemistry within the School of Biological Sciences as an IT Apprentice. You will work towards a Level 3 qualification while supporting the digital infrastructure that underpins a wide range of scientific research and education activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑line technical support to staff, students and researchers.
• Assist in maintaining servers, networks and desktop environments.
• Help troubleshoot hardware and software issues across the department.
• Participate in projects that improve IT services and align with departmental needs.
• Allocate at least 20% of work time to study and complete the Firebrand Information Communication Technician programme.

Required profile

• Motivated learner with a strong interest in technology and problem‑solving.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining solutions to a diverse academic community.
• Eligibility for government‑funded apprenticeship (age 16+, not in full‑time education, meeting Maths and English requirements).

Required skills

• CompTIA A+ certification (or willingness to achieve it during the apprenticeship).
