About the role
Join the Department of Biochemistry within the School of Biological Sciences as an IT Apprentice. You will work towards a Level 3 qualification while supporting the digital infrastructure that underpins a wide range of scientific research and education activities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide first‑line technical support to staff, students and researchers.
- Assist in maintaining servers, networks and desktop environments.
- Help troubleshoot hardware and software issues across the department.
- Participate in projects that improve IT services and align with departmental needs.
- Allocate at least 20% of work time to study and complete the Firebrand Information Communication Technician programme.
Required profile
- Motivated learner with a strong interest in technology and problem‑solving.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining solutions to a diverse academic community.
- Eligibility for government‑funded apprenticeship (age 16+, not in full‑time education, meeting Maths and English requirements).
Required skills
- CompTIA A+ certification (or willingness to achieve it during the apprenticeship).
