Junior Network Analyst

About the role

Ember is looking for a Junior Network Analyst to help design, launch and optimise its electric bus network. You will work across the full route lifecycle – from spotting opportunities on a map to refining timetables after launch – using data, AI tools and real‑world testing.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate new route opportunities using mapping tools, community research and existing transport data.
• Design probabilistic timetables, manage council consultation and register services with the Traffic Commissioner.
• Collaborate with operations and charging teams to ensure driver staffing, vehicle availability and charging infrastructure align with route plans.
• Analyse live service data to iteratively improve routes, timetables and stop placements.
• Work with engineers to enhance Ember’s internal network‑planning tooling, leveraging frontier AI models for faster analysis.

Required profile

• Data‑driven mindset with comfort handling messy data and extracting actionable insights.
• Enthusiasm for transport challenges and willingness to work in the field – riding routes, visiting stops and meeting council officers.
• Self‑directed, hands‑on approach with the ability to manage projects independently.

Required skills

• Python
• SQL
• Spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets)
• Anthropic AI models
• OpenAI models

What we offer

• Salary £40,000–£50,000 per year plus share options.
• Office in central Edinburgh with flexibility to work from home occasionally.
• Enhanced maternity and paternity leave and a strong commitment to diversity and equality.
