Kitchen Manager / Head Chef

About the role

The Halcyon is a lively Hungry Horse pub in Halcyon, just outside Peterborough town centre, known for generous portions of pub favourites such as burgers, Chicken New Yorker and wings, with live sport and a beer garden. It is looking for a hands-on Kitchen Manager / Head Chef to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, keeping the team organised, the food consistently great and the operation efficient. A good kitchen team, including a Kitchen Team Leader, is already in place.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the team: support, motivate and organise the kitchen staff, set a positive example and help colleagues develop their skills
• Plan shifts and manage rotas so the kitchen is covered and ready for service
• Manage ordering, stock levels and deliveries to minimise waste
• Maintain quality, consistency and presentation across the Hungry Horse menu
• Organise preparation and service and make the best use of kitchen space and resources
• Keep food safety, allergen procedures and kitchen cleanliness at the top priority
• Watch costs, waste and kitchen performance to support the pub's success

Required profile

• Previous kitchen management experience or a strong background in a senior kitchen role
• Experience in a busy pub, restaurant or similar kitchen environment
• Confidence to lead from the front and support a team
• Understanding of food safety and kitchen compliance
• A positive, hands-on approach and the ability to work well with others

Required skills

• Stock control, ordering and rota planning
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan ahead
