Lead Pharmacist – HIV & Gender Services (Band 8A)

About the role
The Lead Pharmacist will join the Chalmers HIV and Gender Identity Clinic team at Western General Hospital, providing specialist pharmacy support for complex HIV and gender services. This senior position offers the chance to influence clinical pathways, manage high‑cost medicines budgets and work within a multidisciplinary environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the Chalmers HIV pharmacy service, ensuring high‑quality patient care and reliable medicine supply.
- Provide clinical pharmacy input to the Gender Identity service in partnership with the Lead Pharmacist for Sexual Health.
- Collaborate with HIV and Gender multidisciplinary teams on medicines governance and treatment protocol development.
- Manage the high‑cost medicines budget for NHS Lothian HIV medicines, driving cost‑efficiency.
- Contribute to education, training and technical support activities as required.
Required profile
- Registered pharmacist with full GMC registration.
- Significant experience in HIV and/or gender identity pharmacy services.
- Proven leadership experience within a multidisciplinary clinical setting.
- Ability to work autonomously and influence service development.
Required skills
- Leadership of pharmacy services.
- Clinical pharmacy expertise in HIV and gender health.
- Medicines governance and protocol development.
- Budget management for high‑cost medicines.
