Learning Support Assistant – Support Staff for Alternative Provision School

About the role
We are seeking a compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join an Alternative Provision school in West Sussex. You will work directly with young people who have been excluded, are at risk of exclusion, or are out of education for medical reasons, helping them overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
Key responsibilities
- Provide emotional, social and behavioural support to students both inside and outside the classroom.
- Build trusting relationships and create a safe, engaging learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to tailor support plans.
- Assist pupils in regulating emotions and engaging positively with learning activities.
- Promote confidence, independence and personal growth.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH, SEN or additional needs.
- Calm, patient, resilient and able to think on your feet.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
