Lecturer in English – Functional Skills

About the role

Sandwell College is looking for a passionate Lecturer in English (Functional Skills) to join our full‑time, permanent team. You will help learners develop essential reading, writing, speaking and listening skills that support further study, employment and everyday life.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Functional Skills English lessons across a range of programmes.
• Develop and adapt learning materials to meet diverse learner needs.
• Assess student work, provide constructive feedback and track progress.
• Maintain accurate academic and administrative records.
• Act as a personal tutor, offering academic and pastoral support.
• Contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement.
• Use ILT and digital tools to enhance teaching and learning.
• Participate in team meetings, CPD activities and college events.

Required profile

• A degree or relevant qualification in English or a related subject.
• Teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
• Experience delivering Functional Skills or GCSE English.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and safeguarding.
