About the role

Newcastle University invites applications for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position in Mathematical or Statistical Data Science, encompassing AI. The role is based in the Statistics and Data Science section of the School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics and will start on a mutually agreed date.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality teaching and student support across a broad range of data‑science modules.
• Develop and update curricula, assessments and digital learning resources.
• Conduct internationally recognised research, publish in leading journals and secure external funding.
• Contribute to the Data Science 2030 (DS2030) and Artificial Intelligence 2030 faculty projects, shaping undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Engage with applied data‑science collaborations across the university, including the School of Computing and the Faculty of Medical Sciences.

Required profile

• Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching within mathematical, statistical or AI‑focused data science.
• Ability to strengthen and complement existing activities in the Statistics and Data Science section.
• Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and to enhancing the university’s data‑science offering.
