Legal Director - Crime & Regulatory

About the role

IPS Group, a modern multi‑office law firm, is seeking a Legal Director to join its highly ranked Crime & Regulatory team in Greater Manchester. The role will involve leading complex regulatory matters, providing specialist advocacy in inquests and fitness‑to‑practice cases, and supporting the strategic growth of the practice.

Key responsibilities

• Lead high‑value regulatory matters, including inquests, public inquiries and professional discipline cases.
• Act as a technical specialist on complex inquests and fitness‑to‑practice cases, handling advocacy and mentoring junior lawyers.
• Provide commercial, pragmatic advice to both insured and uninsured businesses and individuals.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with insurers, clients and internal partners.
• Supervise, develop and inspire junior lawyers, contributing to business development and thought leadership.
• Take ownership of financial performance, key metrics and profitability of the team.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with senior experience, ideally at Legal Director level or an associate ready to step up.
• Extensive experience in crime, regulatory, health & safety, environmental, licensing and entity regulation matters.
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex caseloads and develop junior staff.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to build client relationships.
